2009 Pinewood Derby- Macdonald

2009 the most successful pinewood derby yet. A week ago Seth,Zach and Kyle began the journey of creating the most amazing derby cars yet. Zach said he wanted a sports car; red with black pin strips! Kyle wanted a truck with orange and black pin strips! Wow, Seth had to turn the creative juices on. Both boys drew pictures of their cars and they began construction! Fenders, running boards, and much much more. Seth and the boys sanded endlessly to get just the right shape. It was incredible to see such great teamwork and creativity in my boys! Seth had great patience and with love in each cut created works of art! It was wonderful. Then came time for the paint. Base coat of black was applied, tape to cover and outline the windows and pin strips came next and finally the top coat (red and orange) was applied! And then Argh!!! What is wrong. The paint was running off the sides. Seth worked tirelessly to get numerous coats of paint applied. Zach's car started to shape up and look good! Seth pulled the tap off and it looked great with a few last touch ups and a few holes to drill to reduce the weight it was ready to go! Kyle's was a little more intensive, tape came off and several more coats of orange acrylic paint was applied by hand and it looked awesome! Off we went to the 2009 Pinewood Derby! It was a fun event each of the boys won a race or two and the cars looked great! Kyle ended up winning 2nd place for overall Best In Show!
What a great time it has been to see Seth and the boys working together towards a common goal and create such fun, and exciting cars! It was a great day! Except for one things, Seth had to work and since they had done each age group Best In Show I thought it would be over and sent Kyle home because his age group was over. Seth took everyone home except Zach and me who watched th webelos group finish and then low and behold they saved the Overall Best in Show for last and mom paniced!! It got worse as they said and 2nd place in Best in Show goes to Kyle and I thought " I am going to be in such trouble with Kyle" Zach stood in for Kyle and I knew when I returned home I would have some explaining to do! I arrived home and watched my son Zach show such love and compassion for his brother as he explained how he hunched down on the podium and tried to look like Kyle in accepting the award, in addition to his reassurance of how proud he was of his brother for winning the award! Zach showed such love and compassion for his brother and I realized how blessed I am to have such wonderful children! Sieze every moment, make it count, family moments must be cherished every day!
